Company Overview
New York-based CurbSide Pictures was formed in 2001 to develop, finance and produce feature films for theatrical release. Currently the company is developing dramas, thrillers and comedies to be produced in the $5-15 million budget range. CurbSide will consider higher (or lower) budget pictures, co-productions and joint ventures on a project by project basis. In addition, CurbSide is actively developing several larger budget projects for production with major studios.
Over the years, CurbSide has enjoyed working with seasoned directors and writers but we are always eager to discover emerging talent in the independent film world.
Some of our produced films include DAY ZERO, TURNING GREEN and DOT.KILL.
Profile
Rob Malkani is a New York City-based film producer and screenwriter. In 2001, he formed CurbSide Pictures to finance and produce independent feature films. His first feature, which he co-wrote and produced, was the 2003 thriller Dot.kill directed by John Irvin (City of Industry, Hamburger Hill). His follow-up production was the 2004 feature film Turning Green, an Irish coming-of-age black comedy starring Timothy Hutton, Alessandro Nivola and Colm Meaney. The film shot on location in Ireland and New York City. In 2006, he produced (with Anthony Moody), the feature film Day Zero, which he also wrote. The film tells the story of three best friends in New York City who get drafted to serve in the U.S. military on the same day and have thirty days to come to terms with their fate. The film stars Elijah Wood, Chris Klein, Jon Bernthal, Ally Sheedy and Ginnifer Goodwin.
Malkani easily shifts gears between producing and screenwriting and has completed several feature scripts that are at various stages of development and production. Another of Malkani's scripts, One Four Seven Greenwich, a dark and gritty crime thriller in the vein of films like Memento and The Usual Suspects, is set to begin production in 2007 in New York City with Academy Award winner Timothy Hutton directing.
Malkani started his professional life in the corporate world before making his way to the movies. He left a position as a Vice-President in the investment banking division of Credit Suisse in 2000 to pursue his passion for film. Prior to joining Credit Suisse, Rob was a corporate attorney at the prestigious New York law firm Cravath, Swaine & Moore. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Dartmouth College.
